The CLHEP project contains various HEP-specific utility software packages. As of CLHEP 1.9.0.0, these packages can be built and distributed separately or as the complete CLHEP release. The CD/CEPA/APS group has contributed code to CLHEP and helps to maintain CLHEP both at CERN and FNAL.

There are many structural changes to CLHEP with the 1.9.0.0/2.0.0.0 release. All packages were put into namespace. Backwards compatibility code is included in 1.9.x.x only so that users can use the new CLHEP without modifying their code. CLHEP 2.0.x.x is released at the same time as 1.9.x.x but has no backwards compatibility code. We strongly suggest that users port their code to CLHEP 2.0 since the backwards compitbility code will not be maintained for the next major release. We also note that CLHEP 1.9.x.x is the last release which will support gcc 2.95.2.

At FNAL, CLHEP is released as the clhep product for a variety of platforms and compilers. The source code is distributed separately, as the clhepsource product.
